Aurora Studio

Studio is where you design a background. The background fills the window, with your layers on the left, the inspector on the right and playback along the bottom. Every change shows straight away, and the file it saves is the same .aurora file your page loads.

Studio runs in your browser and has no account or server. Your work is kept in the browser between visits, and you can open and save files on your machine.

A first background

  1. Press G to open the presets and pick one close to what you want.
  2. Select a layer on the left, then drag its parameters in the inspector to change it.
  3. Change its colours in the Colours section of the inspector. See Colours.
  4. Press ⌘S (Ctrl S) to save the .aurora file, or use Export for a Vue, HTML or CSS snippet.

The screen

  • Layers (left): the stack, top layer first. Select a layer to edit it.
  • Inspector (right): the Layer tab edits the selected layer; the Document tab edits the palette, the canvas and motion for the whole background.
  • Stage (middle): the live background, with sample text over it so you can judge contrast. Click the text to try your own.
  • Playback (bottom): play and pause, speed, a new seed, and a reduced-motion preview.
  • Top bar: the file name, viewport sizes, preview modes, undo, share and export.

Press ⌘K (Ctrl K) for every command, and F to hide the panels and see only the background.
